Centipede PEST CONTROL
Centipedes are predatory arthropods of the class Chilopoda. They get their name from the New Latin prefix centi-, which means “hundred,” and the Latin word pes, pedis, which means “foot.”
The smaller lithobiomorphs and geophilomorphs might be as small as a few millimeters or as large as 30 cm.
Centipede behavior
Centipedes are typically active at night. They seek cover during the daytime in animal burrows, under ground-level objects, and inside logs and stumps. Typically, they will bury themselves deeply in the ground during the hot, dry season. They roam the area in search of food and partners and are not territorial.
Venomous and carnivorous centipedes are common, They sting and consume their prey, which is mainly made up of worms and insects.
Centipedes need a moist microhabitat because they rapidly lose water because they lack the waxy cuticle that insects and arachnids have. As a result, they might be discovered inside logs, under stones, dead wood, and leaf litter.
Centipede Life Cycle
Although their young may go through numerous molts as they mature, centipedes don’t go through a transformation phase. Centipedes only reproduce throughout the summer and hibernate all winter. A centipede has a six-year lifespan.
Venomous and carnivorous centipedes are common. They sting and consume their prey, which is mainly made up of worms and insects. Although they are not violent toward people, if you provoke them, they might bite you.
Bites from centipedes can cause severe pain but is not likely to be fatal, but could result in significant edema, chills, fever, and fatigue. Small children and those who have bee sting allergies must avoid getting bitten. Such persons may get anaphylactic shock from the poisonous bite of larger centipedes. Smaller centipedes are not capable of piercing the human skin.
